It is expected to be announced in the next few days that the BBC is to lose its horse racing coverage and that Channel 4 will have a monopoly on racing's terrestrial rights for the next four years.

This deal will see races like the Derby and Grand National as well as Royal Ascot move to Channel 4 from 2013.

Personally i prefer Channel 4's coverage so it's not a bad move. However it is worrying how much sport the BBC are giving away.

From being their flagship outside broadcast event, racing has dropped off the BBC scale to the point of you noticed when they where covering it as opposed to noticing when they werent.I cant have any sympathy for "Auntie" because you only get out what you put in and with their partial loss of F1 and know this announcement it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out that its only a financial based decision. To competee for sports coverage rights you need one thing,MONEY,and the only wat to get money is to.......ADVERTISE.Smell the coffee BBC before you end up like the Dinosaurs....extinct.

The trouble with the BBC is it expanded beyond its means and put quantity ahead of quality. There really is no room beyond 2 tv stations and 5 radio stations plus regional output from the license fee.

If they wanted to have BBC3 etc they should have been commercial.
