R.I.P. ANGELO

Just seen on BBC news that Angelo Dundee has passed away at the age of 90.

A great man as well as a great trainer - one of the best in so many ways.

R.I.P. Angelo

Definately the most entertaining of the great trainers- always loved hearing him interviewed, will also always remember him hyping up leonard during the Haglar fight, whilst Haglar's corner was more like a business meeting.

Recently read his book - "My View from the Corner" - well worth a read to get a trainer's perspective of the fight game.

Speaking of Hagler, Goody Petronelli, one of his trainers also died recently.

R.I.P. Indeed, one of the ATG's and as post above says, he was always interesting to listen to and probably one of the first trainers to understand his importance to his importance to his fighters regarding the media.

I knew nothing of the man until my Mrs bought me his autobigraphy a few years back. If you've not read it then you should, it's a must for any boxing fan.

A fella who used to train me (nothing in the least bit serious) was trained by Angelo for a while and spoke vividly about him. A great man on all counts. RIP Angelo.

Terrible shame, a terrific trainer obviously but also one of the best ever at guiding a fighter, is often overlooked but he had final say on both Leonard and Ali's opponents from the day they turned pro and he rarely put a foot wrong in guiding either.

Res in Peace, Mr Dundee. A true great in the sport

One of the great names of the sport. Trainer wise I cant think of any more well known over the years

Not sure many other trainers would've roused Ali/SRL in their respective fights they way he did, probably based on the close relationship he forged etc.

Will go down as one of the greats and will still be revered in 100 years to come.

This will perhaps sound strange given his age, but I'm surprised in a sense. Seldom do you see a ninety-year-old man in as fine a fiddle as Dundee seemed only last year; still with a big smile on his face, telling his stories with enthusiasm and the like. That said, his wife did pass away last year - hard to tell what kind of impact this can have on an aged person sadly left behind by a long-time companion.

A very, very sad day for boxing and, I imagine, a lot of people within the sport. Rest In Peace Angelo, a trainer and cornerman with a track record as good as just about anyone else's in history.

Making Ali go out blind against Liston, Muhammad didn't "Shook up the world" on his own.

I heard an interview where he said the reason Foreman wanted him in his corner for the comeback was because during The Rumble, Foreman thought he had Ali lined up to take a big right hand when he heard this squeaky little voice yell "Get outta there!"

Never forget watching Leonard vs Hearns (on Youtube) and hearing Dundee in the corner telling Leonard "You're blowing it, son! You're blowing it!", rousing SRL to knock Hearns out.

RIP to one of the most recognisable names in the sport.

RIP - Unforgettable Hall of Famer, that has the respect of all boxing fans throughout the globe.

Will be missed but greatly remembered.

I understand this point. My Grandad passed away in 2010 and a matter of months later his wife passed too.

One of the great trainers and characters of the game, loved his humour and witt when he was geting interviewed.

Great motivator as well as being an incisive Coach.....The work he did with Leonard in the last few rounds against Hearns and Hagler was immense....

Who can forget his argument with Bundini Brown ...Ali-Holmes.....

True boxing visionary, one of the greatest trainers, one of the greatest boxing personalities ever.

I never had much time for Ali , but I could listen to Dundee for hours.

RIP. He will be greatly missed.
