Surprisingly Juan Manuel Marquez has been stripped of his title and as of yet no reason has been released so I'm guessing his is going to stay at WW.

Does this make Ricky Burns full champion then?

Well done Frank, step in Britain's newest two-weight world champion - Ricky Burns!

Think he'll either be upgraded to full champion (similar to how Cleverly was) or (very unlikely) he'll face someone to decide who wins the title.

It is a good if Burns does become champion but it would be better if he could actually win it outright. Sort of wish Cleverly could have won it outright as well.

Just doesn't feel as though they are the real champion if they haven't beaten the former belt holder for the title itself.

no doubt as champion burns is entitled to at least 2 easy defenses a homecoming and a domestic rivalry scrap before he defends it against anyone world class. unless broner moves up and becomes his mandatory, then he'll have to move up again to fight a washed up brawler.

joking aside id like to see burns against mitchell. id heavily favour mitchell but ive been wrong on burns before, so would be interesting.

I think an on-song Mitchell v Burns could be a class fight but I think Mitchell beats him.

JMM has said the WBA said it's because he didn't defend his title in 18 months, which he argues as he defended his title against Katsidas less than 18 months ago and also said he has paid sanctioning fees to them on his subsequent fights even though he wasn't defending his title!

He said he suspects they are simply trying to give the title to Linares who he said has close ties to the WBA, i.e. much like the situation with the WBC and Chavez Jr!
It seems like there is a new reason to despise these organisation on the daily basis!

I think any champion should defend his title within 12 months and kind of understand the WBA but if its true that JMM has paid sanctioning fees anyway then this was surely done with the understanding he'd be able to take other fights whilst keeping his titles?!?

If they don't want the lineal lightweight champion representing them, then what a joke of an organisation they are!

If what you say is true Conscience then it makes a complete mockery of being a title holder.

I hope more fighters follow Martinez and just be done with the belts.

I wonder if the IBF will become the one belt that the fans recognise as the true champion soon just on the basis of them not doing anything stupid on a daily basis like the others seem to be doing.

Burns had no chance of getting a fight with Marquez so its probably not bad news for Burns. He should be upgraded to champion he beat Katsidis and with Rios and Guerrero moving up there probably isn't anyone better than Burns at the weight now. He could become a unified champion un ess Frank makes him fight the dross he will serve up.

He was stripped of the WBA title not the WBO, he has now strangely been reinstated after what was said to be an error on the behalf of the WBA.

Cheers mate. How can you strip someone of a title by mistake? I know they have a lot of champions but surely they never got mixed up?

Who knows what the organisations are thinking nowadays, agree with Belchees that the IBF despite being far from perfect were (Hatman pending) the most straight laced of the four, I still struggle to accept the WBO for instance to be anything more than a second rate title.

The WBO are a joke.

The IBF did strip Gamboa of his title after he refused to fight Solis for a second time. The IBF named Solis his mandatory in the same year Gamboa beat him inside 4 rounds. When Top Rank refused to sit down and discuss the fight Gamboa was stripped!

They do seem to be the best mind you which isn't to hard.

With the IBF they seem to be more isolated incidents and I always thought that Gamboa was stripped before the Solis fight due to skipping a weigh in or something. The IBF have a policy of reweighing fighters to make sure they are not 110% over the contracted weight which is why you don't find your big rehydraters fighting for their belt.

Khan said they have a 10lb rule which is strange because Peterson put on 15lb after the weigh in before he fought Khan.

It's a 24 hour reweigh in which makes it a couple of hours before the fight itself, seems odd and almost unbelievable he would rehydrate another 5lbs so close to the fight itself.

Sky commentary team stated he put on 15lb and HBO said thats what he had put on when they did their next day weigh ins.

I think it's Khan telling porkies myself as the IBF re weigh ins are 110%, another thing for him to moan and complain about.
