Famous commentary lines
Hello
How about a thread on famous commentary lines ie, words spoken by commentators during a match (or just after match point) that will forever be remembered, or that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up?
I'll start the ball rolling:
"Federer stands alone" - ESPN, American commentator (not sure who) after Fed got number 15.
"There is a new man at the helm of men's tennis... Rafael Nadal" - Andrew Castle after W'08
"I mean, just outrageous..genius.. the best ever" - WTF Fed v Murray (?commentator)
I can think of lots of Fed related lines but I think that would get a bit boring..
So over to you..

Re: Famous commentary lines
Did I mention the Davis Cup?
(the one and only Mr john Lloyd)
That's probably the best lob in tennis history
(Mark Petchey in one of Murray's matches)
That'e even better than the lob in Murray's match
(MP when Nadal in turn lobbed Murray later on in the tournament)

Re: Famous commentary lines
I heard about one from Ann Jones many years ago - something along the lines of "now is the time for both players to sit down, take their minds off the game and think what tactics they are going to employ in the 2nd set".
Or from the same commentator when Ros Fairbank-Nideffer was beating Gabriela Sabatini at Wimbledon '89 - that Ros was much more secure in herself now she was married - which did not go down well with some professionally-minded women.
Or from Wimbledon some years ago when BBC tv commentator Julian Tutt made some comment about Anna Kournikova (I think) staying in "a little bordello up the road" - I think that was the last match he ever commented on

Re: Famous commentary lines
That is some funny stuff, Priesty a bit of sexism coming through the broadcast.
How about a more recent quote: Mcenroe on Djokovic return: "The greatest return I have ever seen!"

I like the one who said:
"the Spanish hippo is running on the sunset boulevard"
don't remember who was though.
