The Pacific Empty The Pacific

Post by AberdeenSteve Thu 24 Feb 2011 - 22:45

Finished watching this box set a few weeks back and thought i'd write an article to find out whether any of you guys have done likewise.

For those who haven't watched The Pacific is very similar to Band Of Brothers in that it is set during WW2. However this boxset covers the Americans who invaded Japan and the small islands that surround it.

In my personal opinion I think that it is much better than the Band Of Brothers as it covers a lot of the gorier, grittier front line stuff which is absolutely fantastic in places. But it also covers a lot of the darker, edgier stuff like the soldiers that begin to go slightly 'crazy' so to speak. We see how they treat the dead Japenese and what they think of the Jap's in person. It is very dark like I said but is compelling to watch.

Cost me just under £30 quid but what a buy. Each episode is gold and the extras are also very very good.

So, has anyone else watched this box set?
If so, what are your views?

Thanks in advance.

10 episodes at 45 minutes plus heaps of extras! You're defo getting your moneys worth. And like I said the actually series itself is truly amazing. One of the best things I've ever watched!

My sister got me this for Christmas but I haven't had a chance to get round to watching it yet. She said "I got you it seeing as you really liked Band of Brothers"

Thing is, I can't remember watching Band of Brothers! laughing

Ended up getting that box set too for a tenner so I'm going to have to set aside a weekend for the pair of them.

Y2D2 I'd recommend you watch it asap! Honestly can't stress enough how epic this boxset is, such a good insight into how the soldiers thought and lived. Awesome watching.

Great qoute their KB. Harrowing when you watch when it is said though!

For those who might be interested in watching this and have Sky, it is being repeated on Sky Atlantic from this Saturday at 9pm!

Watched when it first came out Steve and really enjoyed it, i liked band of brothers better but that's just a personal choice, the cast was unbelievable. But both are as good as each other and would highly recommend each of them.

I watched it on Sky when it first came out, i really enjoyed it too. It looked realistic, and the battle scenes were great.
