England vs India - T20 - Page 4 Empty England vs India - T20

Post by Gregers Wed 31 Aug 2011, 9:44 am

First topic message reminder :

(From Cricinfo)
Team news

With the probable selection of Alex Hales at the top of the order, England are set to field their 19th opening partnership in 38 Twenty20s.
The bowling attack is set to have a familiar look to it, with Jade
Dernbach's performance in a rain-reduced game against Ireland having
cemented his value in the shortest form of the game. Jos Buttler, who
once again demonstrated his big-hitting credentials for Somerset on
Twenty20 finals day, could find himself squeezed out of the reckoning by
fellow newcomer, Ben Stokes.

England: (possible) 1 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 2 Alex Hales, 3
Kevin Pietersen, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Ravi Bopara, 6 Ben Stokes / Jos
Buttler, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Stuart Broad (capt), 10 Graeme
Swann, 11 Jade Dernbach

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dravid's debut coincides with the end of Gautam Gambhir's tour. He has
not been himself since thwacking his head on the Oval turf while
dropping Kevin Pietersen in the fourth Test, and has finally bowed out
with a concussion. Parthiv Patel, the diminutive wicketkeeper who first
made his name on the 2002 tour of England, is set to open the innings,
with the twin spin attack of Amit Mishra and R Ashwin also likely to get
an outing.

India: (possible) 1 Parthiv Patel, 2 Rahul Dravid, 3 Virat Kohli,
4 Rohit Sharma, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt / wk), 7 Amit Mishra, 8
R Ashwin, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Munaf Patel, 11 R Vinay Kumar

Pitch and conditions

Old Trafford had a reputation as being one of the quickest decks in
world cricket, until the square was rotated as part of the ground's
redevelopment. Since then, the pitch conditions have been somewhat
subcontinental, although that didn't aid Sri Lanka in their
ODI-series-deciding loss earlier in the season. The weather, ever a
factor in Manchester, is set fair. Which is nice.

Rubbish penultimate over batted out by this pair. Just not good enough and now they'll struggle to get 10 off the last.

Ok, its good bowling from Munaf but Bopara is only protecting himself and is not at all interested in helping England. Should England lose from here, the blame must fall squarely on his shoulders.

Why blame flower trebs? Isnt Bopara supposed to be a hitter as well? Maybe Flower expected more from Bopara?

well well, that was better.

Patel saving it to be honest. Bopara is the problem.

Nas is gutted.

Eng did well to bowl them out and give themselves a chance.

A concern for India getting bowled out but all the old boys will be back for the ODI's.

Oh i wanted to see Butler given a chance as well trebs, thats the only thing i can fault Flower on..... well that and picking Bopara.

I am sorry to all the Bopara fans out there but it was very clear that Bopara was batting for himself (in order to get an n.o.) and not the team. He was more than content to let everyone else do the work.

I am never this extreme but i dont want to see that arrogant man ever play for England again.

Heeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yahoo

Good finish and batting from Mo , Patel and Boppie .

Ravi needs to lose the fear and start playing his county game in these T 20s.

Anyway we keep on winning in the cricket and I'm loving it. Smile

I agree Billy. You make a good point.

Maybe the bigger problem is them sticking with Bopara and Flower expecting him to do a job as a big hitter which he didn't really do.

Definitely more risks could have been taken with 6 wickets in hand.

Gregers is going to hate me for this, but KP's knock of 34 off 23 balls was more than useful too, as it got the innings off to a good start after the loss of Hales.

Patel got lucky and fair play to him, he ended with a pretty good SR but there is no way we should have allowed those 2 to be batting together. Both are OK at giving strike back to the other guy to hit some boundaries but they are never going to be '50 off 30 balls' type players. Bopara almost cost us at the end with a very poor penultimate over.

Then again, we did very well to chase down that target and Dernbach in particular bowled very well to restrict them, he really is a specialist in the final overs and T20 in general. He just needs to be careful that he is still bowling mostly fast deliveries and occasional slower ball not the other way around.

31 off 36, I think it was, for Bopara just isn't good enough. Leaving 10 off the last over is always going to be tricky and you do that 3/4 times out of 10 max, but it shouldn't have got that close! With 6 wickets left Bopara could have played some shots and took the pressure of off Mogs. He just isn't good enough!

Broad got it mainly right with his fields today. From the 5th over onwards.

was actually quite impressed with Broad's captaincy, he brought Bopara on who immediately got a wicket, then got two more when he brought himself back straight away. Couple of other things I picked up on too, for instance when he dropped back the fielders to the edge of the circle for the last ball when the first five had conceded just 2 (protecting the boundary).

I think he's got the makings of a fine captain. Sometimes a bit too conventional in his field settings, for instance when he tried to bounce out Rahane he should have had both men outside the circle on the leg-side.

He should of pushed the leg-side field back early on. That's my only criticism of him today as a captain. Fine day for him

vinay kumar was very unlucky in his last over, yesterday, rob bailey, called a harsh wide, and than patel had a lot of streaky edges of yorkers.

A team that can't last 20 overs doesn't deserve to win, as simple as that.

I'm guessing it was mainly due to lack of players. Tendulkar doesn't play T20s and Gambhir went home. They only had Mishra and Aaron left. I doubt they would stick in Mishra or Aaron at number 3.

Side note, I liked the look of that Rahane. So much time to play his shots. Elegant. Why is he not playing Test matches with an average on 67 at first class level?
