I voted for "metal" - but that definition is too narrow. There should be a category that encompasses all forms of rock, including soft rock, hard rock, metal, classic rock, AOR and prog rock.

There are plenty of folks who like rock in one form or another (as opposed to soul, dance, reggae, pop etc) who don't necessarily fit the descsription of Metal Heads.

Given the other choices are also so broad, perhaps just "rock" would have been a better choice?

I have to agree with Davie.

I voted metal but I'd say I was more punk rock and phsychobilly with a bit of metal thrown in for good luck.

In my opinion heavy and metal rock are two very different sounds, metal just seems to have an edge to it slightly more aggressive.
Heavy leads into metal that leads into NWOBHM
Deep Purple Heavy although today they have mellowed
Black Sabbath Heavy, I think I read somewhere that a lot of metal groups look at Sabbath as their fore runners
Judas Priest Metal
Iron Maiden NWOBHM
Most of my stuff is on vinyl which Cds and digital will never replace

Death, Thrash, Grind, Doom, Sludge,...basically Metal

Like a bit of Motorhead and Sabbath, like a bit of Kyuss, Unida, Hermano (Garcia rules) Orange Goblin etc like a bit of D-Beat and Crust

But basically I consider myself a metalhead rather than a rocker

Not exactly a broad range of genres to choose from. I voted for Indie but that is to vague really.

Personally, I grew up listening to a lot of Britpop. Bands like Oasis, The Verve, Pulp, James, Cast were all favourites but I also liked people like RHCP, Primal Scream, Nirvana, INXS. I also love listening to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, David Bowie, Guns and Roses, AC-DC and Poison. I don't think you can listen to one genre of music.

I think that probably says more about you than the rest of us. Laugh raspberry

Agree that there should have been just a generic "Rock" category, as like metal, there are numerous sub-genres that encompass a broad range of styles and sounds.

I grew up with a mix of 70s and 80s rock and pop. Got into grunge and metal in my teens and still like most types of music...apart from disco/dance and R&B.

I have listened to Imagine Dragons, Hurts, and these were my favorite bands for a long time. They are cool, but quite mainstream, so now I found RÜFÜS DU SOL. And this is my new inspiration! Just try to listen to them before work...early morning, a cup of coffee , and this energy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy4KtD98S2c
