Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
I don't know how a batsman (Mukund) can't get a higher ranking out of 10 than he scored runs in the test, especially as he didn't really chip in with anything else during the test.
Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
Mukund made 3 runs, yet he got a 5.
He didn't bowl, he wasn't inspirational in the field and he isn't a captain. Not sure how he can get a higher ranking than his run total. Should have got a King Pair anyway!
I would give him a 1 if the rankings are 1-10, 0 if I can go lower. He tried hard, but he was all at sea - couldn't live with the bowling.

Mukund gets a 1 from me.
Bell deducted 1 for the run out.
Dhoni gets 1 for the run out, which brings him to 1 overall for me.
8 for Tendulkar is generous, given Laxman had a better game for me and got a beauty in the 2nd.
5 for Cook is generous, he'd be hovering around the 1 mark too.

its very rare that we agree on things but this might well be one of those rare occasions.
but i would give laxman higher than 5.he was excellent in the 1st innings and in the 2nd innings he got out to an unplayable delivery.cant blame him much.

Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
England
Strauss 5 - captained well (for instance bringing Cook in the ball before Yuvraéj got out) and battled hard with the bat, but is a bit short of form.
Cook 2 - didn't score any runs (though got a poor decision in the first innings) and dopped a catch (though not an important one).
Trott 3 - injudicious drive in the first dig, then got injured.
Pietersen 7 - got out after doing the hard work in the first innings, but a very important 70 in the second. Bad drop off Yuvraj in the first innings.
Bell 10 - goes from strength to strength, played the match-winning innings, and the best he's ever batted for England.
Morgan 7 - nice second innings knock.
Prior 7 - more runs, scored quickly and demoralised the Indians. Kept pretty well on a tough pitch to keep on (uneven bounce).
Bresnan 10 - people were wrong about him not being good enough. Fantastic second innings 90 and backed it up with his first test 5-for.
Broad 10 - eight wickets, over 100 runs including a precious 60 in the first innings when England were 124-8. Deservedly MOM and is in the form of his life.
Swann 4 - bowled poorly (possibly due to injury) but important first innings runs.
Anderson 7 - Not great in the first innings, but much improved in the second as England ruthlessly bullied the Indian batsmen.
India:
Mukund 0 - sorry but this guy's not good enough to open in test cricket.
Dravid 9 - another brilliant hundred in vain, got a beauty in the second innings.
Laxman 7 - important first innings fifty, got a corker in the second.
Tendulkar 5 - first innings played a rash shot when England were on the back foot, second innings a pleasant fifty, but India need more from him.
Raina 1 - for his fielding. Two awful shots, still can't play the short ball.
Yuvraj 7 - good 60 in the first dig, and tried hard in the second after being hit on the hand.
Dhoni 1 - for calling Bell back, he gets a point. Keeping was woeful and batting appalling. Is the captaincy becoming a burden?
Harbhajan Singh 2 - decent second innings runs when all was lost, and unlucky in the first innings. Bowling completely unthreatening.
Kumar 8 - bowled well and stuck to his task.
Sharma 4 - can bowl good spells, but they're few and too far between.
Sreesanth 4 - way too expensive, particularly on day 1.
Strauss 5 - captained well (for instance bringing Cook in the ball before Yuvraéj got out) and battled hard with the bat, but is a bit short of form.

Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
I think Cook is rated too high. Good player, poor game. 2 with his catch.
I would think about not rating Trott, because of his injury. I suppose you could extend that to Harbhajan Singh as well.
I'd say Dhoni is too high, 5 and a golden duck, keeping was nothing better than average and his captaincy was poor (Bell's reprieve apart). Probably give him a 2.
Raina too high. Made 13 runs in 2 innings, didn't chip in anywhere else. 1.
They're only minor tweaks, other than Makund who looked too high on 5!

Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
My ratings:
England:
Strauss 5 - Captaincy improved. Made two starts but didn't go on.
Cook 4 - Didn't do much, but shined the ball up brilliantly.
Trott 3 - Injury made marking him hard. For before the injury is give him a 5.
Pieterson 6 - Made a decent 60-odd but didn't go on. Dropped a sitter at the beginning of Yuvraj's innings (which dropped him a point)
Bell 9 - Brilliant 150, dropped a point for his involvement in the incident
Morgan 6 - Still not convinced he's a test batsmen. His innings in the second innings was good but he should have converted.
Prior 8 - Brilliant behind the stumps, batted really well in the second innings.
Bresnan 9 - Great 90 and and a sensational 5fer. He has yet to lose a test match!
Broad 10 - Man of the Match. Changed the game with both bat and ball.
Swann 5 - Mainly for his batting in the first innings alongside Broad.
Anderson 8 - Good as ever, bowler well in both innings
India:
Mukund 2 - Cannot play the short ball. Fairly good in the field.
Dravid 8 - Great century. The great wall of India.
Laxman 6 - Looked good in the first innings but didn't convert.
Tendulkar 7 - Back in form. The only Indian batsmen to stand up in the second innings.
Raina 2 - Lively in the field. Shown up by the short ball again.
Yuvraj 6 - Bowler okay, batted well in the first innings.
Dhoni 2 - Would have been one except for overturning that appeal. Awful with the bat, even worse with the gloves.
Harbhajan 3 - Based on his innings in the final stages. Awful bowling and fielding.
Kumar 8 - Bowled well, had a swing of the bat. Can hold his head high.
Ishant 5 - Weirdly ineffective, Bowled well early on.
Sreesanth 6 - Brilliant on the first morning, became increasingly anonymous.

Broad and Bresnan 9 and a half?! After the matches they had. What does it take to get a 10?

How could they possibly improve in that match?
Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
Both bowled superb line and length, took wickets and chipped in with some runs.
Re: Ratings for england vs india 2nd test
May be Bresnan should have converted his knock into a 100, and Broad should have made a better use of the new ball in India's first innings. Didn't Bresnan miss a half chance in the field as well??
A perfect 10 is for an absolutely perfect performance.
Broad and Bresnan has had outstnding games for sure, I don't quite fancy a perfect 10. A perfect 10 for me should be for a ones in a life time performance, like Botham in 1981, Anil Kumble in 1999, VVS Laxman in 2001, or Flintoff in 2005.

His crucial, crucial runs at 10 made a huge difference I think. He stuck it out with Broad out there, and a poor score was converted into a fighting one. Didn't do much with the ball, I suppose the knock that he took from PK was a factor in that.
