Re: The Rock Music Thread
Is this just a general rock music thread or can I add something slightly heavier? I won't be posting Death Metal or anything

So far all I see is a load of shoe-gazing indie bands. When does the proper rock start?

Re: The Rock Music Thread
Since You've Been Gone by Rainbow.
When you consider what Rainbow were capable of just after Ritchie left Deep Purple this was possibly one of their weaker songs, better songs Man on a Silver Mountain, Mistreated, Kill the King, Temple of the King, Catch the Rainbow, Stargazer, A Light in the Black, Tarot Woman, Run with the Wolf to name but a few.
Its about time Mr Blackmore got back to where he belongs and stopped playing pixie music

Really? I didn't know that.
Hmm. Jonathan Davies like to wear kilts and play the bagpipes, so maybe you could have Korn in there too.

Yeah, he is half Scottish and half Luxembourgen?
I was actually thinking about putting the KoRN SONG Shoots And Ladders just because Davies plays the bag pipes at the start.

Re: The Rock Music Thread
Here's a few of my current faves.
Orphaned Land - Sapari
They're an Israeli metal band and sing in their native tongue, so unless you speak Hebrew it will make no sense, but its catchy as hell.
Alter Bridge - Before Tomorow Comes
And because its such an awesome song and they're such an awesome band, here's an acoustic version:
Alter Bridge - Before Tomorrow Comes (Acoustic)
Apocalyptica - I Don't Care
Featuring Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace on vocals.
ZZ Top - Doubleback
Shinedown - Second Chance
30 Seconds to Mars - Echelon
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Alice Cooper - Vengeance Is Mine

I don't listen to metal rock much these days, although I was really into it at one time and still have some classic albums in my possession. Both of my brothers are in musicians and were in metal bands - the youngest one still is.

I've got their Crusade album.
Love tracks like Detonation, Tread the Floods, Anthem (We Are the Fire) and This World Can't Tear Us Apart.
Was looking forward to the follow-up Shogun but they decided to get more shouty, so I passed.

I definitely think you'd enjoy In Waves then mate. They do have the few tracks on the album where they shout but that is just Trivium. I'll post a link to one of my favourites below;

Of course its not all emo guff but there doesnt seem to be any proper old school classic rock bands anymore.

I know what you mean, you don't seem to get an in between sort of band. It is either Heavy Metal or Indie Rock.
That is what nostalgia is for my friend ..

Re: The Rock Music Thread
@Hobo:
I dunno if you're aware but there's been an "old skool" rock revival underway the last few years.
Bands like Heaven's Basement, Stone Gods (before The Darkness reformed), Rattlesnake Remedy, Airbourne and many others have been bringing good time rock 'n' roll back for us old(er) timers.
If its big hair and spandex you love, you can't go far wrong with Steel Panther. The songs are definitely tongue in cheek but musically they're the real deal.
"Proper" rock music has never gone away...just been overshadowed by what the music press reckon is the latest trend.
And of course, the actual old schoolers have never gone away either. I saw Europe play at Sonisphere only last year, along with Motley Crue. Other acts like Alice Cooper, AC/DC and Def Leppard are still very much alive and kicking.
I'd say you just haven't been looking in the right places.
Try this for starters:
Silvertide - Ain't Coming Home
Sadly they broke up a while back (got screwed by the record company they signed to) but they're a great example of whats out there.

I remember 'Unskinny Bop' by Poison, my sister had the Flesh & Blood album. The lyric on that song is filthy: "like gasoline you wanna pump me / and leave me when you get your fill."
