Best signing of the summer so far?
I would do a poll, but want to get everybody's thoughts first.
We're only a little into the Transfer window so far, but we've already had some signings thrown around, so what does everybody think is the best signing so far?
One of United's three biggies of Young, Jones and De Gea?
Or even Liverpool's Henderson or Adam?
Perhaps one of Sunderland's 8?
Andrea Pirlo's free transfer to Juventus?
Altintop to Real Madrid on free?
What does everybody think?

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
I would suggest one that (understandably) hasn't made worldwide headlines. Maybe not 'the signing of the summer so far' but potentially a very good one...
Rob Earnshaw going back to Cardiff on a free. They love him there and after coming close in recent seasons, I wouldn't be surprised if they get promoted on the back of a hatful of Earnshaw goals. He's not young anymore but he's still class and he's proven at that level. With it being a free transfer also, it could be very good business indeed for Cardiff.
I'm not a Cardiff fan by the way and Rob Earnshaw has never played for my team (Mansfield Town) but I've always thought he was class at Championship level.

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
Ruud Van Nistelrooy from Hamburg to Malaga for free.
Andrea Pirlo from AC Milan to Juventus for free.
Miroslav Klose from Bayern Munich to Lazio for free.
Hamit Altintop from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid for free.
Taye Taiwo from Marseille to AC Milan for free.
Keiren Westwood from Coventry to Sunderland for free.
I think they could all be very good free transfers, but the only ones I would say are guaranteed regular first team football are Van Nistelrooy and Taiwo, maybe Klose but I don't know much about the Lazio attack. Really hope Westwood gets his chance because I know he is a great keeper and he has to be ahead of Mignolet in the pecking order.

I'd have to go with Kevin Nolan for West Ham. Four million quid is a snip for a player of his quality and he'll probably be the catalyst in their promotion push.

Pains me to say it but Man Utd have done a brilliant deal in getting De gea , already a good keeper hes got the potential especially under SAF to go on to be the best in the world , he could be at Utd for 10-15 years .

They had to as he wouldn't sign new contract,
what better way to replace him than the man who scored more than him

Earnshaw was pretty poor last year

I won't argue with that. Being where I am and seeing only two Forest games online last season, I'm in no position to argue. But I think he could do very well next season, going on his history. In my opinion, value for money should be considered if we're talking about 'the best signings' and to get Earnshaw on a free should represent good business. Maybe not as good as getting Pirlo on a free like Sunderland/Juventus did, but still good for Cardiff.

It'd be nice if he returned to past form, but I think hes firmly on the decline. He's lost some of his burst.
David Vaughan on a free could be good for Sunderland.

So I guess you're not too sorry to see him go?
What about Tyson? I foresee a corner flag being uprooted in jest when (or if) he gets his first goal for Derby.

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
I think if Nasri/Modric do end up moving they could very well be signing of the season
Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
If the rumour is true and Nasri to Man City for £23m is true, then they could have some fantastic attacking players. Biggest signing for Man City would be not letting anyone sign Tevez.

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
It's all well and good signing someone who has excelled in a different division or league, but it's always a risk. That is why I was championing Earnshaw. However, sometimes a punt on 'unproven talent' pays off.
So the 'signing of the summer' could well be Villas-Boas, if we look at the bigger picture. Who knows? Not me, and not you. But it should be interesting to find out.

Can't say I'm bothered about Tyson, he wasn't going to play. not like Commons when he was pretty much our best attacker.

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
That is a very good signing IMO, he's always had the nack for scoring goals, and I think back in the Championship he could do a good job snatching goals for them.

There are bound to be a lot more before window closes and i'll probably change my mind again but at the minute for me not including frees its , Roger Johnston 7 million to Wolves a commanding defender who was in the top 10 last year imo , really surprised that a bigger club didnt come in for him at that price .

Same, I can't work out why Arsenal didn't sign him, he's around the same age as Samba, but I think a better defender and fills their English quota, and I bet if they do sign Samba he'll cost more than £7 million.

Considering his debut, Sergio Aguero could certainly be seen as the signing of the summer?
Or is it even Wes Brown to steady Sunderland's defence?

Depends what is considered value for money , there have been some great free signings and also some good bargains . If Aguero's goals go on to win Man City a trophy then even at his fee it could be the best signing of the summer .

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
I think City have to win the title rather than a domestic cup competition for Aguero to be the best signing. I'd say it's going to be between Long, Enrique, Aguero but have a feeling Harry Redknapp will make at least 1 great signing at the last minute just as he did last summer with Van Der Vaart

I think Given will be signing of the season. £3.5 mill!
I think Arsenal probs would have had to pay closer to £6mill due to there rivalry but they should had defo want for him

Re: Best signing of the summer so far?
I think it might be Enrique considering how well he has performed for us so far despite only being part of the side for a short while. I wasn't convinced that he was going to be a good signing, I thought he may be another Konchesky, a decent player at a mid-table side but when they step up it is too much but he has been excellent defending and going forward, him and Downing have combined really well.

From a Premier League perspective I would go with Given to Villa, absolute bargain or Shane Long to West Brom, the prospect of him and Odemwingie up front is scary for a team like West Brom

From a totally biased point of view, Yohan Cabaye has been awesome for us. Pardew snapped up a full French international for 4.3m, the guy is class. Considering Tiote was 3.5m, our midfield two totalling 7.8m looks an absolute steal.

Ba to Newcastle, Parker to Tottenham or Jones to United.
Aguero's been immense but he cost a mint, had to call that a clever/shrewd signing.
