25 million a year, not bad if you can afford it.

£112m for first 4 years, second 4 years probably more - depending on finances.

How is it worked out then ?

I just saw 200, divided it by 8 which makes 25. But you are now saying it is 28 million per year for starters then it could be more ? That is good for the clubs in England.

How will it be shared out though ? Will all clubs get an equal share ? Or will it go on how many internationals you are providing ?

The headline said more than £200m, the detail says £112m for first 4 years, second set dependent on finances.

It is split up into differing amounts to be shared. Details of that not released but will include:

Fixed amount for each club (biggest individual allotment)
Payment based on playing minimum number of EQPs
Payment based on number of players in EPS
Payment based on Academy quality.

It should also be noted that clubs will receive "central" allocations of money from PRL to cover both the AP and EPCR TV/commercial arrangements.

£112m fixed in first four years.

How many clubs is this spread across?  12? 14?

If it's 12, that's equivalent to £2.33m a year for each club although it is linked to the number of EPS players from each club?

The RFU have missed an opportunity to include the Championship sides rather than giving them a separate deal which doesn't have any significant profile or resourcing. I note no mention of expanding PRL to 14 teams either and ditching the LV.

It is not good enough for England to only have 12-14 fully professional teams which leaves access for fans far from ideal with large areas with no local side in the top tier. I do wonder sometimes if the PRL really yearn for some closed shop elitist league similar to the Pro12 and finally ditch promotion and relegation.

Clearly the funding for Academies and EQ AP squads is an ongoing reality to keep a functioning Test side. The RFU have got a pretty good 8 year deal given their revenue streams.

It seemed to suggest 14 academy sides were agreed so not sure how the funding works with that. Playoff format may get tweaked.

If PRL wanted a stealth removal of promotion have a two legged playoff final with semi finals including the top 3 in the Championship and the bottom Premiership side. Forces the promoted club to have deep pocketed backers to beat the bottom Premiership side.

Seems a decent deal all round. Be interesting to see what effect the 45 man EPS and enforced rest periods have on team selection and squad choice going forward. Will increasingly restricted availability to EQ players see teams heading to even more foreign qualified players? Additional funds is making that more and more feasible. I was hoping for stricter EQ qualifiers for bigger lumps of the cash but I guess the PRL weren't keen on that.

Agreed on that point. Or instead of a general 75% quota on squads, make it maximum number of foreign players per match day squad of say 4 players. Foreign meaning they don't qualify to play for England now or in future.

Would be great to bring that into European comps as well.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2016/07/26/exclusion-from-new-rfu-deal-threatens-future-of-championship-rug/

Whilst this is a somewhat alarmist title there appears to be a raising of the drawbridge from the RFU and PRL and focusing on 12-14 teams to create and copy the Pro12 elitist league structure.

This is surely not acceptable and the goal must be to lay the framework for more professional sides around the country to become sustainable. That takes resources and unless the RFU unveil a suitable plan for the Championship then the medium term outlook for these teams can only be extremely disappointing and an opportunity missed.
