Always sad news when a player with so many years ahead of him is forced to retire, but equally considering the severity of his injury it is amazing he is up and walking.

Sad news, but surely the right decision. I remember when Nigel Melville retired, his reasoning was that you only have one neck.

For his relatively brief international career, he looked a class above most of his backline colleagues for Scotlnad, and would have been an excellent addition to their improving and now fairly rapid 3/4 line.
