Great for all nations involved. Usa and Canada will finally get regular games from good opposition.

Great for the game. Now the IRB should be looking at developing meaningful competition in Asia, South America and North Africa too

That is excellent news for them, hopefully SANZAR will now consider the winners of that tournament as a qualifying to invite a team to the Rugby Championship.

That will be a nice carrot to dangle, win the Pacific Nations cup and play in the Rugby Champioship the next year.

Funniest thing in that article is that Samoa had the privilege of being invited to the SA competition with Scotland and Italy as the highest ranking 2nd tier nation...they're ranked higher than Italy AND Scotland. What the hell is the definition of Tier two other than not being in the old boys club?

It would be Samoa and Argentina getting promoted/relegated each year. So's pointless IMO.

Not suggesting anyone gets relegated. Argentina was never part of the Pacific Nations cup in the first place. I am suggesting the winner of the pacific nations cup is added on an annual basis to the Rugby Championship, so that will make it 5 trams.

Africa and Asia have their own versions of the 5 nations...and the leagues below that.

Now Bilts could probably explain more...but i believe this is generating some good competition and indeed Namibia the traditional powerhouse after SA are not so anymore...as other countries with bigger playing resources are overtaking them.
Indeed i believe Namibia were recently beaten by Madagascar where rugby has a huge support.

In Asia they also have the 5 nations and leagues below with promotion and relegation. Now whilst Japan nearly always win and they should move off to play the bigger teams...the rest are profiting from regular games against equal sides of equal standards.

Because there aren't too many test matches and too much travelling for super rugby players already?
Could that be fitted into the irb release window? Or are we talking a 5 nation's not home and away set up?
Is it possible to organise the logistics of hosting 4 plus tests in Tonga at short notice?
Is it in danger of diluting the competition which already often has a runaway winner?
If it's not Japan coming in would the increased costs outweigh the extra revenue, bearing in mind nz and the aru are barely solvent and many pacific nations require irb help to exist?

Excellent news. It can only be good for all the teams involved. I really hope in the coming years one of Japan, USA or Canada beat one of the established teams to really shake up world rugby.
