Oooh yes, that might be a very good one indeed.
Dear old Tommy Haas - is he No 21 now? Incredible after all he has been through!

Re: US Open Day 3
shame that nalbandian pulled out against del potro, that would have been a great match to watch. I have heard there is a bit of history between the two of them as well which would have really made it interesting.
Amazing how tommy haas has turned things around, you really have to hand it to him.
Anderson could be a tricky opener for Ferrer but over 5 sets would expect Ferrrer's consistency to grind him down.
Malisse could sneak a set or two off Isner if he brings his A game

I think Malisse leads the H2H 2-1, with Isner's win being 2 tie breaks earlier this year. Possible shock there.

I'm hoping the Murray match doesn't start until after 2.00 in the morning, by which time I'll have arrived at our hotel in Tunisia and ready to watch.
They'd bloody better have coverage or I'll wreck the place!! Ha.

Dodig on fire (ok, a small chance) could pose Murray a question. For a couple of games...

Tipsy wins, just about. Did anyone catch Malisse swearing? It was rather funny.

Gilles Muller becomes the 6th man in the first round to come from 2 sets down to win. Took the 5th on a tie break.

Re: US Open Day 3
I was just thinking we've seen quite a lot of 0-2 sets comebacks. Two more today
Isner has MP against Malisse, Malisse's serve though. and saved with a huge FH!
Gasquet has lost the opening set against Montanes

can you believe it? Malisse misses the easiest of BH volleys to gift Isner MP on his serve. Big serve and it's all over. Isner through to R2, but he had to work for it.

Clijsters leading Robson 5-2 with one break so far. Robson not playing badly by any means (just a couple of avoidable errors so far really), but Clijsters is moving too well and overpowering her at the moment.

If Laura improves her consistency and her movement even 5%, I see her as a major winner. Not on clay, perhaps a US or a Wimbledon.

Re: US Open Day 3
Robson breaks back! Clijsters misses a couple of first serves and Robson steps in on the second serve, hammering away a couple of monster winners to bring up two BPs. She takes the second as a spinning FH forces Clijsters wide from where she can only net. Well done Laura!

and a really good hold from 15-30 down, big serves and FHs getting her to 5-5.

agree with this, the weapons are definitely there. Her movement is improving actually, certainly much better than it was a year ago, and I'm sure it will carry on doing so. Consistency still a problem, but she's playing pretty well so far today.

Re: US Open Day 3
It's the serve that mainly lacks consistency. Saw it during the Olympics, if it worked even a bit better Mobson would have won gold easily. Still, the power is there and she's still only 18.

Re: US Open Day 3
scrappy game, but Robson staves off three set points, all with big serves to take us to a TB. Needs to get her first serve back on the other points though

such a good play that, the sliced serve out wide followed by the forehand winner down the line. 3-3 in the TB, crowd right behind Robson.

COME ON!
Clijsters moves ahead 4-3 but Robson pummels two second serves away (love the way she does after the second serve ) before coming up with two service winners to take it 7-4.

good scrambling from Robson and a couple of poor FHs from Clijsters allow Robson to hold serve comfortably at the start of set 2.

oh dear
back to back DFs from Robson gift Clijsters the early break in set 2. Her ball toss looks a bit shaky to my (inexpert) eye.

Re: US Open Day 3
She's keeping her composure really well too.
I wonder how much good has come from playing with Murray in the Olympics and getting a silver medal, must have been a great confidence boost to her. She certainly playing confidently. That said, I do think it's fair to say this isn't the Clijsters of some years back but she's still a very good player nonetheless and this would be her best scalp surely.

Re: US Open Day 3
Clijsters, possibly un-nerved by the quality of Robson's returning, returns the compliment as she goes for too much on her second serve. Robson breaks straight back!

Scrappy game then from Kim.
Have to say Robson has to be one of the bigger hitters on the WTA, her BH return is particularly strong.

another really good hold from Robson, her serve once again digging her out of trouble (though she does throw in a DF) as she saves two BPs to move ahead 3-2.

Re: US Open Day 3
Robson gets away with it a bit there. Doesn't make enough first serves but Clijsters lets her off the hook with a couple of errors. It's 5-4 to Robson, Clijsters to serve to stay in the match...

Re: US Open Day 3
that's a great gutsy hold from Robson. At 30-30 she somehow fails to win a point she should have won three times (great scrambling by Clijsters), but a good serve to the body staves off the BP, and two more big serves get her nose in front again at 6-5.
