Thorpe signs one year deal at Tigers Empty Thorpe signs one year deal at Tigers

Leicester Tigers have added another backrower to the squad as worries over the fitness of Craig Newby and Ben Woods continue. Newby has a knee injury and will miss the opening few months of the season whilst Woods has a wrist injury that ruled him out of large parts of last season and is hindering him still.

Thorpe signs on a one year deal from LI who have agreed to pay some of his wages this season in order to end his contract early. This makes him a cheap cover option for Tigers who will look to utilise his ability to play right across the backrow. This is the second cover signing for the backrow following Brett Deacon's return after Tom Croft was ruled out of the opening part of the season with a neck injury.

Cockers comments about Thorpe reporting his move on Twitter:

"He (Thorpe) will not be using Twitter to be discussing any of those things any more," said Cockerill.

"If he didn't know beforehand, he certainly knows about it now."

I can imagine that was a good vocal warm up for Cockers with the season starting soon. Would have severely tested his new 'calm' persona. Thorpe made a big error let's face it, Tigers were waiting for the green light from the RFU to confirm the deal and the idiot jumps the gun saying he's already signed, Tigers could have been in an awkward situation if the RFU had not allowed them to sign a medical replacement for Woods/Newby (whichever one they named).

I am a bit suprised that LI have agreed to part fund Thorpe's wages at Tigers, they must have been desperate to move him on.
