Texas Scramble Rule Empty Texas Scramble Rule

If you decide to select a ball in a bunker do the other players get to place the ball or do they have to drop?

A ball from the bunker or the event!

why drop?

That's unfair as you are likely to plug thus giving you a lie which is not representative of the lie the orginal player had.

Although... why take a ball in a bunker anyway? It's like choosing to play a 10 foot downhiller breaking left to right instead of a 12 foot uphiller with a right to left on it.

What a bunch of choppers that scramble grouping must be then! Whistle

Nixon. I think that most places that hold scrambles have a rule that they play for things like that if I'm honest.

Maybe it was a tee shot near the end of the round where it was necessary to take one player's shot to fulfill his quota of tee shots

A bunker is a hazard, you can't place in a hazard.

It is very unfair, but surely you could have decided to play one of the other balls.

It's a potential theory... but I prefer the chopper version. laughing

With the groups I'm talking about the chopper version is the most likely

It's not unfair at all. As you say, it is a hazard. If you landed in a water hazard, the likelihood is that your Texas Scramble team wouldn't want to drop in there and would probably take a drop outside of the hazard with a shot penalty. You have the same option with a bunker. If you don't want to play in a bunker take a drop outside and a penalty.

A normal hazard is far more forgiving than a water-hazard but they're both hazards which you shouldn't be in so it's not right to call one unfair when, in fact, it's more than fair.

There's no rule as such, the organiser should just explain how you deal with balls to be played from rough, or hazards etc.

played a team scramble recently - painful indeed. Anyway, bunker rule was written and posted on our locker room borads for all to read. Went something like this...

If team select to play out of a a bunker - the first player plays as it lies (obviously). He can then rake the bunker (no other player can rake it until they have played shot) - player 2 can then place the ball as near to the original spot as possible in a newly raked bunker. Rinse and repeat for the last guy. Always place and player before can rake. Idea being that the hazard play is enough of a test without having huge footprints and a plugged ball.
