Magnetic / ionic wristbands Empty Magnetic / ionic wristbands

Post by Skydriver Wed 30 May 2012, 9:07 pm

Have never tried them, but the concept sounds like a load of botox to me.

Someone I know (not a golfer) has recently come into possession of one, and seems happy to try it out with an open mind (in the conflicting knowledge that (a) scientific proof of enhanced performance or health benefit is scarce-to-non-existent, but (b) lots of professional sportspersons seem to wear them).

Led me to wonder if anyone here has had experience of using this type of equipment, e.g. Power Balance wristband (used by e.g. Ian Poulter), Trion-Z bracelet (e.g. Rory McIlroy). Do they work, or rather, do you think/feel they work??? Or is this an endorsement-led scam on global scale?

Pile of doo-doo. First question I'd ask is who of the pros you mention are paid for wearing them?

One other point to add is if someone thinks they work it may well be that they do offer some real effects via placebo. Me? I think they're a scam so they'll never do me any good.

The way they demonstrate these things makes me laugh. They push you, then put the thing on and push you again. The expression 'fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me' springs to mind.

They may help you to play your best by aligning your natural internal force fields with the earth's magnetic fields, with reference to the tectonic plate shifting that is continually happening. With aligned force fields, your swing is synchronised, you can see the lines, judge the wind, and remain calm under the most intense pressure. You swing within yourself, and hit it miles because your timing is spot on.

On the other hand, they may be a right load of old bollox.

I know which I'm going for.

Haha. I have some tees in the bag that give you an extra 10 yards. A steal at 10 pound for 10. Anyone want any?

If I need an extra 10 yards, I just walk back 10 yards from where I hit the shot and the ball is 10 yards further away.

The holligrams are nonsense I am pretty sure of that- but the magnetic ones have been around for along time and supposedley treat travel sickness(travel sickness is a balance problem)- I have had one for that for yonks. not 100% sure it works but i think it probally does slightly and if not the placebo effect does. When your sick as a dog traveling its worth giving anything a try...but these days i just drug myself up on planes or boats instead- seems to work better Magnetic / ionic wristbands 732107

I think that it could be a load Bolloks, but it has been known for sometime that a copper bracelet can help with rheumatics, so for all we know there might be some truth in it, me I will give these types of things a wide berth, my golf game will survive with out them

Just to throw something in the ring:

I live in a very hard water area and used to get terrible 'fur' in the kettle, dishwasher, washing machine etc. I put a magnet on the water inlet pipe and the fur certainly in the kettle has dropped away to virtually nothing, haven't bothered to check the other appliances. See no reason why it shouldn't be the same and also the general plumbing and central heating.

Erm!! Any real reason why a magnet should not do a similar thing to my bloodstream?? Whistle

Certainly don't wear one for golf mind you!

picard

I knew there was a reason why my thinking was wrong and would be proven so. It was the lack of calcium carbonate all along.

But of course these magnets align the ions in the water and if I could have a big enough magnet on my wrist..........Mind you. it would have to be about as big as a car to have even a minimal effect......I spot a flaw in my thinking!

See no reason why a magnet on your pipes should influence fur build up as magnets are only going to influence ferromagentic materials and last I checked, calcium carbonate isn't going to be influenced by that sort of thing.

NBS - I hear what you say..........but, the facts do not lie! It is only since I added the magnet, that my fur has disappeared (sounds like I need a 'merkin').

Apparently, the calcium carbonate is still there, it just doesn't manifest itself as a residue. Something to do with its ions being repelled!

Unless anyone is sherlock homes, a well respected scienest , or one of them lads off the big bang theory then id suggest its all about the practical not the theory. If it works it works

i'd say in this case its more about the theory than the practice. obviously there will be scientifically proven theories about the success or otherwise of using such devices. however this misses the crucial point that in sport, humans are not just bags of chemicals, we are bags of emotions, and it is how we deal with these and control these that separate us from being successful in any given circumstance.

However i will take your point on board.

Oddly enough though some of the most successfull people utilise the skill mind over matter, many religious nuts are very successfull. Breaking things down and over analysing can be very conflicting in regards to success

The banner ad at the top of this page is for acemagnetics; targeted advertising much?

I think if you think they work there will be a benefit, just not sure what and how much of one that will be. If you are sceptical, like me, about such things then there will be little chance of it supposedly working.

yep... even with the plumbing!

You don't have to be a respected scientist to know the basic chemistry involved in limescale forming, and whether magnetism will have any effect according to theory. Whereas one bloke using magnetic thingies and having less limescale could be cos of any number of overlooked factors, which is why all scietific stuff should be tested under proper scientific conditions... which the TrionZ things and so on haven't!

all theory has to be proved with practical- it is the only way of truely proving the theory behind it- It really is that simple- 100% Magnetic / ionic wristbands 732107

And why there was a law suit against the hollograms- They had to admit there was no scientific proven benefit behind them.

However i have heard that the trionZs have class one medical recognition. So it must have been proven to do something at the least!!- that doesnt mean it will help you shoot lower though!

I have no idea what the things the poster has put on his pipes- and I dont know if it has been proven. But it seems to have helped him out- so good luck to him!! Magnetic / ionic wristbands 732107

They've only been proven to part someone from their money. You won't see any serious peer reviewed scientific journal giving them the time of day.

For all those who play with steel shafted clubs...

Does the strength of the magnet affect your hook????

Or slice - depending on which wrist its worn on.
