Kotelnik Retires! Empty Kotelnik Retires!

I feel for the guy. He seemed destined to get shafted in his big fights (excluding the Khan fight) and probably lost any remaining passion after the Alexander fight, which was his last.

I second that. A disgraceful decision, he deserved more. All the best to him.

Shame for a decent fighter like Kotelnik to retire on such a low note. Khan was all wrong for him but other than that he was a match for anyone at 140lbs.

Sound fighter and a model professional from what I've seen with my own eyes and heard from others. It's a shame that Khan made that "worst belt holder in the sport" comment, because Kotelnik demonstrably wasn't that at all.

Won't be getting teary-eyed at the thought of him hanging the gloves up by any means, but his consistency and results / performances against the likes of Witter, Khan, Maidana and Alexander are proof enough of his abilities as a Light-Welterweight.

All the best to him.

Feel bad for him. Was a very good fighter at 140 but sadly not the sellability of the likes of the likes Khan which would have guarenteed him fairer treatment in the Alexander fight. Happy retirement Kotelnik, got out with your dignity anf faculties in tact

Can't say I'll miss him but he was definitely underrated for most of his career. Strange that his final fight, a defeat, gained him more respect in the boxing community than all of his previous fights combined.

Khans comments seemed to give the guy a bad reputation when he was in fact one of the best in the 140lb and would say after his showing against Alexander that he beats them all with the exception of Khan and Bradley. Having been screwed against both Alexander and M'Baye it comes as no surprise to hear of his retirement, he's been very much in limbo being too high risk and too low reward.
