Horses to Follow this Flat Season Empty Horses to Follow this Flat Season

With the Flat season starting at Doncaster this Saturday, I'd thought I put down some horses to look out for during the 2012.

ARCTIC COSMOS
He won the 2010 St Leger for John Gosden but has only been seen twice out since finishing 2nd in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot before being 4th in the Canadian International. Both of them races were over 12 furlongs and this horse will surely appreciate a step up in distance. The John Porter Stakes at Newbury in late April has been pinpointed as an early season target.

AULD BURNS
This Richard Hannon trained colt had a steady season last year with some decent runs behind Genius Beast and Masked Marvel and could be one to watch in middle distance handicaps

BORN TO SEA
This half-brother to Sea The Stars and Galileo is the last offspring of Urban Sea. He is trained by John Oxx and owned by Sea The Stars owner Christopher Tsui. He ran twice last year winning his maiden very well before disappointing in the Kilavullan Stakes. He was found to be lame post race on his last start so there could still be more to come from him.

CAMELOT
Another Ballydoyle prospect. He won both of his starts as a 2YO, the later coming in the G1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. He is by Montjeu and will surely appreciate further than a mile. He could be a real prospect for the Derby in June. He is entered for the 2000 Guineas too but O'Brien suggested recently he could bypass that race.

CIRCUMVENT
This Paul Cole trained horse was 3rd in the Winter Derby last weekend and 6th in the Cambridgeshire. The 10f at Lingfield seemed to just be on the steep side for this horse and he maybe well worth following in handicaps over a mile.

EXCELEBRATION
This 4YO won the Prix Du Moulin Group 1 over a mile last season and finished runner up to Frankel on three occasions when trained by Marco Botti. He has been transfered to Collmore over the winter and will be trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien. He is entered for the Tattersalls Gold Cup and could be one to watch in Group 1s over 10f this summer.

EXPOSE
This is a lightly run 4YO for William Haggas. He won a 5f handicap on his last starts in June and could be one for big sprint handicaps. Don't be surprised to see him step up into Listed and/ or Group class.

HARBOUR WATCH
This colt won three from three last term culminating in the G3 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. He won all three starts easily enough and was one of the pre-race favourites for the 2000 Guineas before injury ruled his out of the first classic of the season. He could still be one to watch later in the season and the Sussex Stakes back at Glorious Goodwood could be the ideal race.

MAYBE
She was the top rated 2YO filly winning all of her five starts. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the filly is out of Galileo and will appreciate further. Would definitely be one to keep a look out for later on in the summer in the likes of the Nassau Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks.

NEPHRITE
This Adian O'Brien colt won both his starts as a juvenile, beating Born To Sea in the G3 Kilavullan Stakes on his previous run. He is by Pivotal and could be one for the 2000 Guineas. He is currently trading at around 10-1.

POWER
Staying with Ballydoyle, Power could be a really good prospect for the big sprint races like the July Stakes and Nunthorpe later in the season. He won the National Stakes G1 at the Curragh in September before finishing runner up in the Dewhurst Stakes. He is by Oasis Dream an has a sdprinting pedigree but may find the mile in the Guineas just beyond him.

SOLE POWER.
He didnt get his optimum conditions last season but his two runs in Dubai have shown that he retains all his fizz.A strong run 5 on quickish ground see this fella in his best light and in a division that looks open he can pick up some very decent prizes.

TRUMPET MAJOR
Won the Craven over the full 2000 Guineas trip at Newmarket in very taking fashion. He showed a deal of promise in his racecourse appearances last season, particularly when putting in a career high in the most recent renewal of the Dewhurst. He travelled really sweet yesterday and put the race to bed with a sharp turn of foot just outside the one but it was the way he stretched out and ran right through the line that impressed me.Irrespective of whether hes Classic standard or not he must surely be able to win a decent pot or two along the way.
