Afternoon fellas

Your votes on who you believe to be the ten greatest Test opening batsmen of all time have been taken into account, and as a result the following official 606v2 cricket rankings have been compiled.

Bill Lawry was voted into 11th place, for the record.

Wouldn't have ranked Hayden or Greenidge that high myself.
And how can Hobbs be 11th if it was restricted to post-war players?

Hoggy's obviously correct about something having gone a bit Pete Tong with some votes for Hobbs whose career finished in the 1930s.

I need to facepalm myself then, given that I voted for Hobbs, as did Chris.

Ok, edited to include Lawry who finished 12th.

My initial reaction is all the right names are there, but in the wrong order. Obviously someone like Richards was always going to split opinion, but (IMO) to see Shewag and Hayden above Morris is a bit bizarre.

I'd agree with Mike on this one, Sehwag and Hayden seem very high to me, but I can't really argue with too many names on there (in fact the only one I'd argue with genuinely is Sehwag, but that's a debate we've already had quite often enough...)

Hayden is maybe a little high, and Sehwag is certainly too high, I think, but a solid list of names.

What about John Edrich , who in his day was a great and forceful opener, along with 'Our Geoff' and the mere fact that he opened so many times with Boyccs suggests his average would be better!!

The most entertaining and exciting batsman from this list would have to be Barry Richards, and in his day Hayden could be merciless.

A good list that i feel is lacking, but i don't know why !!

Probably only just outside the top 10. A wonderfully dogged player - who battled against many of the finest fast bowlers in test cricket, such as Hall, Griffith, Lillee, Peter Pollock. Scored over 100 first class centuries. One of the greatest of the illustrious history of Surrey ccc.

Accidentally clicked on this page just now ...coincidentally while watching Alistair Cook in what might be his last Test innings ...

Wondering if he might be infiltrating this list as he goes into retirement ? Opinions ?
