now there are just strong 3 woods, weak 3 woods or strong 5 woods, no real difference though.
but then 5 woods will be pretty much dead soon enough

Nearly 40 years ago (gulp) I got my first half-set of clubs (second hand). It was a 2- and 4-wood with 2, 4, 6 and 8 irons!
The 2-iron was never used (I was only 14 at the time and struggled badly enough with the 4-iron). The 2-wood was good off the tee though and the 4-wood not too hard to hit off the deck.
Of course this was a long time before custom fitting (for the masses anyway) and as a rather weedy 14 year old the clubs were probably ful size adult clubs and I never really stood a chance. Still had fun trying though

Re: What's in your bag
I now carry ...
10.5 degree King Cobra S9-1 (graphite)
Mizuno T-Zoid 3 wood (graphite)
Mizuno T-Zoid 5 wood (second hand with steel shaft)
Nicklaus N1 Linear Dynamics 3-SW irons
John Letters Trilogy Putter
Time to think about changing the irons though - I've had them a long time and though they are cavity-back (allegedly) they are such a small, light head I sometimes feel they are half way to blades which I am nowhere near good enough for. Fancy something a bit more chunky and forgiving as I get older

Yankee - I picked it up off E-Bay. My son advised me to go for a 4 wood, rather than carry a 3 and a 5. It is one of my favourite clubs.

g15 3wood
g15 hybrid (2iron)
mizuno mp32, 3-P
vokey 52.08
vokey 56.11
scotty studio select newport 2
until recently carried a vokey 60.07, but it's made way for the new 3wood. can't say i miss it. the 56 is still great for flop shots, and superb from the sand.
I used to use a callaway steelhead III 4-wood. I believe you can get the g15 in a 4wood option. Not seen many others about recently. as mysti says, weak 3woods or strong 5's are all the rage. 2iron hybrid makes an excellent substitute for a 5wood in my opinion.

yankee, i think davie's looking to move away from blades.
mb's look and feel great, had a trial with them up north a couple of months ago and they were dreamy. picked up my mp32s the same weekend for £95 second hand. figured they were more within my budget than £650 for the mb's!!

i used to have 680's (titleist) loved them- higher muscleback than most- made the ball go lower.
tried the mb's and they felt more like the the 690's to me(still lovely- but still prefered the 680's)- in the end went to taylormade and tried the mb's and mc's - thought sod it go for the clubs that supposedly should give me more forgiveness- even though both felt very similar and had a relatively low ball flight

I thought they must be quite old as I remember cleaning out my late grandfathers garage a few years back and found a 10 iron in one of his sets of clubs.

Re: What's in your bag
NEver seen a 4 wood, really wow. There's still a fair few manufacturers that do them if you want one. Best 4 wood I owned was TM V Steel that was a seriously workable club,
As for 10 irons I know callaway as recently as there Big Bertha 04 irons still labelled the wedge as a 10 iron.
Whats in my bag, as follows:
Driver: Nike SQ Black Machspeed 9.5degree (Round headed one)
3 Wood: Mizuno MP001 Strong 3 (Just put this back in my bag)
Hybrid: Cobra Baffler Rail
Irons: Cobra Pro-MB
Wedges: 52 & 56 Adams Puglielli Black
Putter: Benross Doral White
Currently trying out the new Adams MB irons

Re: What's in your bag
I have a 12 iron - it is quite old, sharp enough to cut the ball in half if you thin it, is 58 degrees and can do fantastic full blooded 30 yard flop shots. Lay the clubhead back and the ball can almost shoot up your nose.

My first thought on seeing this thread was 'what, again?', but I've changed so many clubs this year it's interesting again.
Titleist 907D2 (Aldila VS Proto 65 stiff shaft but about to be changed)
Titleist 910F 17 deg, aka 4 wood, diamana kai'li blue stiff
3-pw Nike Pro Combo S300 Dynamic Gold steel
Vokey Spin Milled 52, 56, 60
Rife Aruba putter
All new in the last 14 months, barring the driver which I'm about to reshaft. Handicap hasn't moved!

You can only get them through club fitters that stock them, as they only bespoke build to your spec', and there are a few around. Where are you based.

They stock them at St.Andrews at the club fitting centre (Applied Golf technology). Nice irons, but the woods are hideous, and you'd be lucky to get 50p for them once you've had them for a while.

Re. KZG's Z0 blades. Don't half look nice but they're a lot of iron. Think Nick Price played them for some time.

Not so. KZG are rare(ish) and sell well on eBay.super_realist wrote:They stock them at St.Andrews at the club fitting centre (Applied Golf technology). Nice irons, but the woods are hideous, and you'd be lucky to get 50p for them once you've had them for a while.

Funny, the first thing I thought was that they look exactly like the 2010 version of the titleist mb's! Just had a wee browse - I see titleist have re-launched the AP1,2,CB,MB for 2012 . . . from a cursory glance, not exactly a massive leap forward in design from the last incarnation.

Navy, I'm talking about the Woods, the irons are very nice (though a bit derivative of some OEM's earlier models) and I can see why they hold their value but the Woods look very cheap and pretty nasty.
