BoxNation - Will You Be Subscribing Now? Empty BoxNation - Will You Be Subscribing Now?

Post by AlexHuckerby Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:57 pm

After a few weeks and seeing the fights they are getting have they changed your mind on what you are going to do?

I must say, the channel is a must for any Boxing fan by the look of the fights they are getting, far, far better than what Sky put on. You do get your Warren bills, but it does appear he's matching his fighters harder than usual, plus the Sauerland events which are generally very good, also the Top Rank bills they have been getting i.e Donaire, Cotto and Marg and they have Golden Boy on there side as well. Considering Sky only have Matchroom and a few others and the Pacqiaou's and Mayweather fights seemingly being on Primetime will you perhaps even be giving up Sky?

I was very skeptical at first, but fair play to the guys at BoxNation the fights have been terrific, I really like the idea of the small hall stuff.

I actually love Bunce's Boxing Hour more than Ringside, I mean you've got to say Bunce's undying passion for the sport is incredible, yes he witters but he's a character and for me Ringside lack that slightly. Although it may not be as sleek as Sky or as flashy but I prefer it. Far more down to earth, with Sky it feels like it's a bit business like and the way they talk doesn't interest me, I find BoxNation seems to talk a little bit more like us guys and find it more enjoyable.

So, what do you guys think and will you be subscribing?

Nah, haven't been persuaded, the quality isn't very good, the studio (with the exception of Bunce) sucks (Keys knows sod all and is embarrassing, frankly, and Lillis bores for Britain). Also, it's simply too much money.

I don't think it's that good a deal to be honest, considering the amount of sport Sky Sports have it's definately the cheaper option. But they obviously have no decent boxing now. A few years back Sky didn't miss a decent fight home or abroad.

I think it will inevitably get better over time (Providing it lasts that long)
Main thing for me is, they have 80% of the best fights it seems.
All they miss is a few guys like Kell Brook, Froch and it seems (Although not definite) Mayweather and Pac in the long run.

Although I'm not a huge fan of Enzo Mac's voice for the fights they have I'll live with it. Also the American fights are done by the second best American commentary team. The Colonel!

I like the colonel, good when you just get the live feed from America, unless it's Kellerman, they should bring big George back to slap him about a bit.

Merchant had been getting on my nerves recently but after he climbed out of his flu bed to challenge Floyd mayweather he will forever remain a legend. I remember seeing a video when he was younger, he was about to do an interview in the ring when someone started complaining of a robbery, Merchant flipped, grabbed him and threw him across the ring, you any idea what fight that was?

HBO Commentary team of:

Lamplin - Merchant and best of all Steward.

The dream team in my opinion.

Ian Darke and Jim Watt were awesome back in the day. Darke has the best British Boxing voice. Listening to the Khan - Prescott knockout is just brilliant.

Late December early January by the sounds of it, which means two more months of free quality fights like Marg/Cotto - Katsidis/Burns and the like can't wait.

I don't mind Keys, don't forget he used to do Boxing on Sky Sports yonks ago. He's a good con artist can almost seem like he actually knows what he's talking about, good presenter in my opinion but maybe needs to polish up on what he knows about boxing.

As long as there are no long term contracts and the quality stays the same I will be paying. It's only £2.30 a week when you work it out per annum. Surely that's worth it for real boxing fans.

Alex...do you work for Boxnation? You're getting a little over-excited about this channel Wink

To me, the quality of the production is miles behind even that of Primetime, let alone Sky. The whole set up just seems a bit clueless, and Keys knows sod all about boxing, I can't remember exactly what it was he said during the Clev/Bellew card but he really embarrassed himself.

£120 per year for a specialist boxing channel that is only on from 6pm onward and doesn't include the likes of Mayweather, Pacquaio, Froch, Ward, Brook, Khan...no thanks.

The one thing I wonder about it is the sustainability, how long can it last, would be a bit sad to see it go for me due to the fights it gets. However at the same time you can counteract the argument by saying it makes Boxing only available to an even smaller audience and fails to reel in any new fans.

The best fights bar the biggest ones, so for me it's a huge yes, I'm in love with it. Seeing the likes of Donaire on TV over in the UK Marg and Cotto those kind of fights, swings it for me.

Have not watched an American fight on there yet, am I to assume by the Colonel you mean Bob Sheridan is doing the commentary? If so if I was having any lingering doubts about whether to subscribe count me out. the man never shuts up, the concept of letting the action speak for itself is one is appears blissfully ignorant of, absolutely the worse commentator in the world.

I won't be binning sky sports as I watch too much football. In reality a tenner a month is nothing, my initial objection was more on principal. I'll see what the schedule in the new year looks like, but if they carry on putting regular quality on then I imagine I'll sign up. Keys gets on my wick to be honest, he's on TalkSport with Gray now and he's still as weedy and sycophantic as ever. I'll give him due credit his knowledge of football is virtually encyclopaedic, but he knows jack all about most other sports - particularly boxing.

At the minute I love being able to flick it on and catch the BHop - Dawsn rerun, including the Linares scrap. The 5th Nov card looks quality too, can't wait for that but as I've said all along, this is just charging me more for something I had already so I'm going to dig my heels in and not sign up. Hopefully it'll all come crashing down and we'll have it back on Sky.

No plenty of fights on Sky to keep me happy without further lining the pockets of Frank Warren who with this channel is trying to push his overhyped boxing stable (the Boxing equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes) onto the already overpaying boxing fan.

It's definately not value for money in my view, if i had more money at the minute i would probably subscribe no matter what. But he hasn't got anything that Sky didin't, a 24 hour channel, now that would be good value.

Undecided as yet. I've been quite impressed so far - and Buncey is great. All about numbers though, so can see the quality dropping if Warren struggles to get his estimate figures. 500,000 subscribers is a large amount to convince.

ok lance now that hit a nerve...

i would marry duke mckenzie (no homo)

i couldnt believe how smug he was about the hopkins dawson fight. afterwards saying he knew dawson would win and that hopkins had quit because he had been dominated for 2 rounds, haha. cos hopkins is a known quitter who always dominates the early rounds yeah Duke

could have said that about him after 4 rounds in his first fight with pascal. dawson was always gonna be a tough fight for hopkins, not sure who was gonna win, but for duke to be so smug and say hopkins was a quitter was a bit strong i thought.
