Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

The wine is top notch though Glas, I had a word to my brother so there's plenty of sauvignon blanc.

Christ almighty, I took a week off after the Ireland match because the wumming, backbiting, one-upmanship and crabbiness was incessant and I wanted to stay out of it. I'm back now and I'm letting myself get sucked into a poo-storm that I should know better to be involved in.

I'm seriously re-evaluating my need to post on an internet forum. I even enjoyed the week off.

Which makes me wonder, why bother being on a forum at all.

I get the whole pub thing, but if I'm not discussing rugby I'm not really interested in being here.

I preferred the rabo articles during the rwc because they were wum-free. and I tried to make a few to keep things interesting, but as soon as the rwc is over the wums will be on the domestic board and it's all going to go downhill once again and I don't see the point in making an effort.

I know what you mean Greybeard. I allowed myself to get sucked in recently. Its not easy to avoid.

We often talk rugby in here where we know each others reactions rather than the outside.

Here's a few discussions I couldn't be arsed to do on the outside:

- Who have been most disappointing team of RWC?

- How much is club success and international success linked?

- Which will be the most competitive match of 6 Nations 2012?

- Matfield or Smit? Who was a better Springbok?

greybeard - laughing

ooo those are good questions Stag.

Most disappointing - for me personally, France. They just haven't played to their potential, or in what I would call the French way, which is what made me fall in love with their rugby team when I was little. I expect more from them.

club and international success - I wouldn't say they are linked all that much. A definite link there, I mean the Welsh regions didn't do dreadfully in the magners last year, and although they didn't progress very far in the HEC, there were still some great performances to show what they were capable of. I wouldn't say it's a link you should read too much into though, pretty much down to the fact there are foreign players in the club sides that will have no affect on the international team.

most competitive match of next year's 6N's - impossible to call that one for me, might hazard a guess to Ireland v Wales.

Mattfield or Smit - Mattfield for me.

I tell you one thing. If by some miracle France pull off an upset every other team in the RWC should be ashamed of themselves. There's no way a team should win the RWC by throwing away it's preparation and starting a 2ft midget scrum half at 10 on a whim.

Maybe extremely is a big word to use actually but I think usually there's been a link in winning rugby domestically and internationally. England in the early 2000s, NZ's dominance of Super Rugby and the international arena, French Grandslams have coincided twice in last few years with all French HEC finals, SA's amazing 2009 season saw amazing Super Rugby performances. Nick Mallet has been crying out that letting Italians into ML will improve national team.

I would say the Welshs shortcomings at domestic level and Ireland consistently falling short internationally are anomalies.

greybeard - there are, at most, about 5 wums on here. Whilst yes they are annoying, the amount of good posters on here are more then enough to out weigh them and should have the intellect in how to handle them properly.

Unfortunately, more and more people are biting. The way posters respond to them can be just as bad (and I'm not finger pointing here because we can all be guilty of it from time to time).

And I don't know how I'll react if France win. If they put in a good performance, not sure I'd mind too much, but if they play like they did in the QF and SF that would be so hard to take. I do have to say though the Bonnaire, Dusatoir and Harinordoquy have been incredible in protecting Parra though, they are a very, very good unit. I actually think where France are going wrong is at centre. Mermoz and Rougerie don't seem to work together. All of their other players have all actually performed v well, even if they aren't clicking as a team.

Fair points - we do comment outside - sifting through the WUMS is not fun though.

I mean no disrespect to the mods at all but has there been an attitude to let the WUM Fire burn itself out rather than nipping it in the bud.

Thats fair enough Dreamer. I know your confined to the rules but I have to say I'd like to see more discretion allowed (hehehe I sound like a welshie after the warbuton incident that made me laugh) Smile

I'd like to see a Mod be able to use common sense to say - I can see where your going with this feic off - instead of having to wait for a rule to be broken.

We joined here in the summer where it was quiet and there was no wumming. There has been a lot recently.

Acutally I was quite disappointed with Fiji. Samoa were tough, Tonga's win against France was hair on the back of the neck stuff, but Fiji were disappointing, they've been so much better in the past.

I wasn't all that surprised by Fiji. They were rubbish going into the tournament.

On Australia they scored no tries against Ireland, none against New Zealand and I felt were terrible against South Africa. The three teams of note they came up against. Against Italy they had a very poor first half where they went in 6-6 and in the warm ups they lost to Samoa.

He's suggesting that if NZ (the home team) win the RWC Sunday, and then in 2015 England (the home team) win the RWC then after 8 RWCs the score will be (in alphabetical order) Australia 2 wins, England 2, NZ 2, SA 2.

And then asks what England need to do to achieve a win in 2015.

For the rest of this week I'm going to be working with a guy from our Montreal office who's over here for a week. Just got the following in an email from his boss:
PS Steeve is a soccer player and a big fan. Do any of you have any ins to get him to a soccer match while he's there? (Apparently, he looked on line and the cheapest tickets he could find were 400 GBP!)
(and yes he does spell his name with 3 'e's)
I've looked and there are stuff all soccer games in London this week
Tomorrow Millwall have a game (and I'm not recommending that!)
Wed Chelsea are at home in the Champions League (prob. the £400 a seat one)
Thurs Spurs are at home in the Europa League
And Saturday is a choice between Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon!
