The definitive lineal champions, by division Empty The definitive lineal champions, by division

Post by HumanWindmill Thu 28 Jul 2011, 10:04 am

We have now assembled a list of the lineal champions for all weight divisions.

Thanks to all who contributed both data and discussion at the original thread. Will leave that thread here for a day or two so that any discussion generated by this new thread can be carried on there. I will then return it to the main boxing forum.

Special thanks, also, to ' The Cyber Boxing Tone ' whose pages I plundered for much of this material. Their research team boast fine credentials and, in many cases, are also researchers for the IBRO.

O'Brien never defended the title and it lay dormant. There were several claimants, including Bob Fitzsimmons, but Jack Dillon won unanimous recognition after wins over other claimants.

Jack Delaney (1926-1927, never defended)
Tommy Loughran (1927, vacated title 1929)

Jimmy Slattery, Maxie Rosenbloom, George Nichols and Lou Scozza engaged in a kind of round robin for the title and eventually Rosenbloom came out on top.

Gus Lesnevich (1941-1948)
Freddie Mills (1948-1950)
